Double Press
Natural
Big Bale
Press

The System
The Natural Big Bale Press is designed to maximize efficiency in
processing field big bales for export. Double Press has achieved
an impressive machine with a relatively small footprint and a
significantly reduced manufacturing cost. With bolted
construction, custom configurations require no redesign.
Bales are loaded, cut, pressed, and sleeved with efficiency.
This reduces the handling normally required at the back end, as
well as the labor needed to run the operation. The process is
automatically controlled, or can be manually controlled by the
operator.

Loading
Three big bales can be loaded at a
time onto the infeed system which feeds them into the cutter. An
8” cylinder pushes a bale through the vertical cut station where
knives slice the bales in halves or in quarters between the
twine, maintaining the bale’s integrity.
Twine Removal
At the operator’s station the
product can be inspected for quality and consistency, and the
twine manually removed.
Weighing
Prior to compression the hay passes on to an infeed scale that
selects a predetermined amount of product to be compressed.
Press
The hay is then compressed with a single 18” cylinder, reducing
the bale length to about 27”. Compression power is supplied
either through diesel or electric motors.
Side
Ejection The compressed,
full-weight bale is side-ejected, and may be sliced horizontally
before arriving at the sleeving station. The vertical slicing
before compression coupled with the horizontal slicing after
compression yields half-cut bale sizing inside the sleeve. The
customer realizes easier handling, shorter fiber length, and
historically consistent package size.
Sleeves
An operator places a
woven polypropylene sleeve around the ejection port, which traps
and holds the bale as it is being ejected. The finished size is
36”H x 48”W x 44”L. This allows it to be placed three bales high
and two wide in a high cube container for a total of 52 bales.
Bale Discharger
The sleeved 1000-1100 lb bale is
moved away from the ejection port and accumulated for easy
access by the clamp operator who can set bales aside or load
them directly into a container.
Control
The system is controlled by the press operator via the
control panel. As with other Double Press machines, the primary
mode is “Automatic”. Each of the 9 steps can be manually
controlled, making set-up and maintenance an orderly and
repeatable process that can be completed by a trained employee.
What's In It For You?
By building a simplified machine
that processes big bales directly into sleeved compressed bales,
Double Press provides customers big machine efficiency at a
fraction of the cost, and eliminates the need for strapping and
wrapping machines and material.
The process provides a
3-Tie/Half-cut natural product in a 1000 lb (450 kg) package at
a rate of one container per hour.
